Updated this week

Answers to common questions about Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) in Re-Leased — covering recovery codes, resetting 2FA, mobile app access, and shared logins.

Activating 2FA

What happens the first time you sign in to Re-Leased regarding 2FA setup?

The first time you sign in to Re-Leased, you will be prompted to set up 2FA before you can continue. Follow the on-screen steps to link your chosen method.

If your 2FA needs to be reset, a user with Administrator permissions can do this by navigating to Settings > Company and Users and clicking the reset link beside the relevant user.

Recovery Codes

How do I generate my recovery codes?

Recovery codes are generated during the 2FA setup process. Store them somewhere secure — do not share them as they can be used to bypass 2FA. See Setting Up 2FA with an Authenticator App for full steps.

How do I regenerate my recovery codes?

Go to My Account > Security > Manage Two-Factor Authentication Methods > Regenerate Recovery Codes. Download, print, or copy the new codes and keep them safe. Each code can only be used once.

Supported 2FA Methods

What are the supported methods?

Resetting 2FA

Can administrators reset a user's 2FA without contacting support?

Yes. Navigate to Settings > Company and Users > Users and click the reset now link next to the relevant user. They'll receive an email with a reset link valid for 30 minutes. See Self-Managed 2FA Recovery.

Do I need to reset 2FA if I get a new phone?

If you use Authy, download the app on your new device and sign in with your existing Authy account — your 2FA tokens sync automatically. If you use Google Authenticator, disable 2FA on your account and re-enable it on the new device using the same key or QR code.

Mobile App Access

Is 2FA required for Re-Leased mobile apps?

Yes. Once 2FA is enabled on your web account, it is also required for all Re-Leased mobile apps.

Is 2FA required for property owners using the Landlord App?

No. 2FA only applies to users with a Re-Leased web login. Contacts such as property owners are not required to use 2FA.

Can users with a security key or biometric 2FA access the mobile apps?

Not currently. Mobile app access requires an authenticator app as the 2FA method. Contact support if you need to change your 2FA method to regain mobile access.

Shared Logins

Multiple people in our team need to share a login. What should we do?

Sharing logins is not recommended. If temporarily unavoidable, consider using Authy's multi-device feature so multiple team members can access the same 2FA codes, or access Authy on a shared desktop or laptop.

Windows is prompting me for a security key when setting up a new device. Can 2FA be turned off?

2FA cannot be turned off, but it can be reset. Contact support to reset your 2FA, then re-add your security key or switch to a different authentication method.

Administrator Responsibilities

How are administrators are responsible for ensuring all team members have 2FA enabled?

  1. Navigate to Settings > Company and Users > App Settings and enable mandatory 2FA for all users.

  2. Users will be prompted to set up their 2FA method at their next sign-in.

If a team member changes their 2FA device or loses access, administrators can reset their 2FA from the same Company and Users page.
