Setting Up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) with an Authenticator App

  • Updated

Welcome to our guide on setting up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for your Re-Leased account. In today's digital world, utilizing 2FA is essential for enhancing the security of your property management software. This extra layer of protection helps guard against unauthorized access and secures your data from potential cyber threats. We'll guide you through the process of enabling 2FA with an authenticator app, and explain how to generate and safely store your recovery codes.

Getting Started with 2FA

Accessing Your Account Settings

  1. Click on your profile picture in the top-right corner of the Re-Leased platform.
  2. Choose My Account from the dropdown menu.
  3. In the My Account area, locate and click on the Authenticator App option.

Note: Upon logging into Re-Leased, if the 2FA is yet to be enabled, you will be prompted to set this up before gaining access to Re-Leased.

Linking an Authenticator App

On your device, launch your chosen authenticator app. If you have not yet installed one, we suggest popular options like Authy, Microsoft Authenticator, or Google Authenticator. Once open, scan the barcode displayed on your Re-Leased screen or manually input the code you see.

If you are an Authy user, consider enabling multi-device and backup features to streamline your access across various devices and secure your tokens. For detailed instructions on setting up Authy, click here.

After scanning the barcode with your authenticator app, a pin code should now appear within the app. Enter this pin code into the field provided on the Re-Leased platform.

Confirm and Enable 2FA

Select Confirm and Enable Two-Factor Authentication to finalize the setup. A confirmation message will appear, along with a new tile labelled Smartphone app.

Generating and Managing Recovery Codes

With 2FA successfully enabled, the next crucial step is to generate your recovery codes. These unique codes are vital in case you lose access to your authentication device and need an alternative method to sign in to your account. Follow the instructions provided to download, print, or copy your recovery codes, ensuring they are stored in a secure location.

Should you ever need to use one of these codes, remember to regenerate a new set immediately after.  Select My Account > Security > Manage Two-Factor Authentication Methods page and select Regenerate Recovery Codes. Download or write down your new codes, and safeguard them just as carefully as the originals.

By integrating 2FA and responsibly handling your recovery codes, you'll vastly improve the security of your Re-Leased account. Remember to keep these codes confidential, as they hold the power to bypass the 2FA protection.
