Setting Up Macquarie DEFT/BPAY Payments for Tenants

  • Updated

This article guides you through entering DEFT/Biller codes to Invoice Templates for tenant payments. This is done by generating tenant reference numbers and should be completed after speaking with Macquarie Bank.

Confirming Your DEFT/Biller Codes and Account Type

Before you begin, connect with Macquarie Bank to discuss reference number generation and verify whether your account is of modulus 9 or modulus 10. This needs to be completed before moving forward. Please reach out to Re-Leased Support to obtain the Macquarie Bank DEFT Payment set up Spreadsheet if Macquarie Bank is unable to provide it.

Generating Reference Numbers and Bank Check Digits

Generating reference numbers with a corresponding check digit is essential for successful DEFT/BPAY payments. Follow these steps using the spreadsheet provided:

  1. Open the Macquarie Bank DEFT Payment set up spreadsheet and select Enable Content to activate disabled macros.

  2. Choose Modulus 9 or 10 based on the information from your bank.
  3. Enter the Tenancy name and the first reference number.
  4. Press the ENTER key to obtain the new code with the check digit.

Continue by inputting these details into Re-Leased:

  1. Navigate to the Tenancy Details tab of the first Tenancy on the list.
  2. Input the Reference from the Bank Code Column on the spreadsheet to the Online Payment Reference box against the tenancy.
  3.  Select Rename to change the custom field name to Bank Check Digit and enter the single digit from the Spreadsheet to this field.

Updating Invoice Templates with Payment Information

With reference numbers and check digits in hand, the next step is to update your Invoice Templates:

  1. Go to Settings and then to Invoice Templates.
  2. Select the Default template and click on Edit Template.
  3. Within the template editor, find and click on Edit under Payment Advice.
  4. Enter the required Merge Fields as seen below to pull across the Tenant Reference and Bank Check Digit.
  5. Input any images using the Image icon in the available options.

Once this is complete, all references and Bank Check Digits added against the tenancy will automatically pull across to any future invoices sent.
