Understanding Deposit Protection Requirements
Legally, most residential deposits must be protected in a government-approved scheme. Our platform integrates directly with official protection schemes to streamline this process.
Protection Options Available
The platform currently supports two deposit protection schemes:
- Tenancy Deposit Scheme (TDS) - A UK-wide insured protection scheme
- Safe Deposits Scotland (SDS) - A scheme specific to Scottish properties
Adding TDS Protection
To protect a deposit with the Tenancy Deposit Scheme:
- Navigate to the deposit details page
- Click Add protection
- Select Create Protection with TDS (Insured)
- Details should auto populate, including:
- Landlord name and contact information
- Landlord address
- Verify property address details
- Tenancy information:
- Monthly rent
- Deposit amount
- Date deposit received
- Tenancy start and expected end dates
- Tenant details including:
- Name
- Mobile number
- Click Protect deposit to submit to TDS
Adding SDS Protection
Important Note: Protecting a deposit with Safe Deposits Scotland is currently only possible through importing an existing protection. You will need to create the protection within SDS first and then link it via Re-Leased.
To import an existing SDS protection:
- Navigate to the deposit details page
- Click Add protection
- Select Import existing Protection from SDS
- Enter the protection ID
- Submit to link the existing protection to your deposit record
Importing Existing Protection
If you've already protected a deposit outside the platform:
- Click Import existing Protection from TDS or Import existing Protection from SDS
- Enter the protection ID
- Submit to link the existing protection to your deposit record
