If your accounting system organises tracking options into parent and child levels, Re-Leased now shows you that structure wherever you select or view tracking. You can see exactly where an option sits before you choose it, and Re-Leased links invoices to the right property even when the option you select sits below the one set on the property.
Availability: This applies to Connected Accounting customers. Your tracking hierarchy is created and maintained in your accounting system (Xero, QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct, NetSuite and MS Dynamics BC 365) and syncs into Re-Leased.
What a tracking hierarchy looks like
A hierarchy is a tracking option nested under another one, similar to classes and subclasses in your accounting system. For example, a building might sit at the top, with tenants or business units nested beneath it:
2 Bridge Street (parent)
Re-Leased (child of 2 Bridge Street)
NZ Operations (child of Re-Leased)
Previously these appeared as a flat list, so an option named the same thing in two places was hard to tell apart. Now the relationship is visible everywhere you work with tracking.
Selecting a tracking option
When you open a tracking option dropdown, child options appear indented beneath their parent, and the full path shows in grey text below each option name using a colon separator, for example 2 Bridge Street : Re-Leased : NZ Operations. Top-level options have no path shown beneath them, because there is nothing above them.
Search works in both directions, so you get the surrounding context rather than an option floating on its own:
Search for a child option and Re-Leased also returns its parents, so you can see which branch it belongs to.
Search for a parent option and Re-Leased also returns everything nested beneath it, so you can see what is available at the lower levels.
This makes it much easier to pick the correct option when the same name appears under more than one parent, such as a tenant who leases space in several of your buildings.
Checking a tracking option after it is saved
On saved lines, tracking options still display as clean single-name chips so your invoices stay easy to scan. Hover over any chip that has a parent and a tooltip shows the full path, for example 2 Bridge Street > Re-Leased > NZ Operations. Top-level options have no tooltip.
Where you will see the hierarchy
Hierarchy display is consistent across the areas where tracking is used:
Invoices, both when editing and when viewing a saved invoice
Credit notes
Rent and lease line items
Instalments and related workflows
Outgoings and repeating invoices
Budgets and consolidated views
The property tracking configuration page
How Re-Leased matches invoices to properties
This is the change most likely to save you time. When an invoice line carries a tracking option, Re-Leased looks for the property that option belongs to and sets it on the invoice for you.
Re-Leased now walks up the hierarchy when it does this. If your invoice line uses Re-Leased but the property is configured against its parent 2 Bridge Street, the property is still found and applied. This works through as many levels as your hierarchy has, so a grandchild option matches a property set against the grandparent.
The matching rules themselves are unchanged:
Exactly one active property matches, and Re-Leased sets it on the invoice.
No property matches, and the property field stays empty for you to complete.
More than one property matches, and the property field stays empty, so you choose the correct one rather than Re-Leased guessing.
Before this change, selecting a child option when the property was configured against the parent produced no match at all, and you had to set the property by hand.
Setting tracking on a property
On the property tracking configuration page, reached from the side navigation on a property, the tracking dropdowns now show the same indentation, paths, and two-way search. Options you have already selected display with their full path, so you can confirm at a glance which level of the hierarchy the property is configured against.
Choosing the right level matters. Setting a property against a parent option means invoice lines using any option beneath it will match. Setting it against a specific child narrows the match to that branch.
Importing properties
The property import template now includes a pre-populated dropdown for the tracking option column instead of a free-text field. The dropdown lists active options across all your tracking categories, shown with their full path so you can pick the correct one when names repeat. If a value in your file is not recognised, you will see a clear validation error on that row.
Things to know
You create and change parent and child relationships in your accounting system, not in Re-Leased. Your hierarchy updates in Re-Leased when your accounting sync next runs.
If you use NetSuite, lower-level tracking options now display just the option name on invoices, matching how QuickBooks Online and Sage Intacct behave. Previously NetSuite showed the whole path inline.
Tracking options with no parent behave exactly as they always have. Nothing changes for a flat tracking structure.
Hierarchy display on the property tracking configuration page also requires property tracking defaults to be enabled for your account.
